The Canada Goose is a migratory bird that can cover more than 1000 km in a day. It flies in a V-shape formation for two main reasons. To start with, this specific formation allows the birds to conserve energy and profit from the drafting affect of the goose's head. Secondly, by using this formation the geese can easily coordinate their movements and can ensure quick and efficient communication. Flocks of geese will make frequent stops in order to rest. In addition, the Canada Goose nests in the same nesting area as their parents and often uses the same nest year after year.
